Team Leader Embedded Software Engineering (m/f)

Stadlerrail seeks a Team Leader for Embedded Software Engineering in Białystok to lead the development of control software for traction and auxiliary converters.

This position is based at Stadler Converter, a Polish entity within the Stadler Group that is currently expanding its power converter manufacturing capabilities for global supply. The successful candidate will lead the software engineering team tasked with creating embedded control software for traction and auxiliary converters, as well as battery chargers.

Responsibilities

  • Guide, mentor, and develop the software engineering team focused on embedded control systems for converters and battery chargers.
  • Manage the architecture, coding, and verification of real-time embedded software used in motor-control applications.
  • Direct the creation of high-reliability firmware in C for microcontroller platforms such as TI C2000 and ARM Cortex.
  • Oversee the optimization and testing of control algorithms specifically for AC motors.
  • Ensure robust implementation of embedded diagnostic software and communication protocols.
  • Collaborate with system engineers, testing teams, and vehicle-integration groups to align software development.
  • Guarantee that software architecture complies with railway standards, safety requirements, real-time constraints, and internal development processes.
  • Supervise software verification, hardware-in-the-loop testing, commissioning activities, and documentation throughout all development phases.
  • Plan workloads, allocate resources, improve processes, and define the technology roadmap for the team.
  • Establish or refine development processes based on the V model and align them with other STACON procedures.
  • Act as the technical authority for converter-control systems during customer projects, design reviews, audits, and technical discussions.

Requirements

  • A degree in Control Engineering, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Several years of professional experience in embedded software development for power electronics, motor control, or real-time systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience or strong potential for leadership within embedded software or controls engineering.
  • Expert-level proficiency in C programming for real-time embedded environments.
  • Deep understanding of asynchronous motor-control algorithms, power-converter topologies, and embedded control platforms.
  • Familiarity with communication interfaces including CAN, TRDP, SPI, and I2C, along with industrial communication principles.
  • Fluent command of the English language.

Nice to have

  • Prior experience in traction or auxiliary converter development.
  • Knowledge of C++, Python, or scripting tools.
  • Experience using MATLAB/Simulink for modeling, simulation, or control-algorithm design.
  • Understanding of railway industry requirements, safety considerations, and system-engineering processes.
  • Proficiency in the German language.
