Translational Medicine Expert – Dermatology, Associate Director

Novartis seeks a Senior Translational Medicine Expert in Dermatology (Associate Director) in Basel for a hybrid role. The position focuses on leading drug development strategies, clinical pharmacology, and translational research across global programs.

This role provides medical and scientific leadership to advance early and late-stage global drug programs. The expert will guide translational research efforts, including the development of new indications, endpoints, and biomarkers, while supporting clinical pharmacology and study design throughout the development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Create and execute strategies for the Translational Medicine aspects of drug development from early research through to the Target Product Profile.
• Serve as a primary leader in shaping Phase 2-3 and post-approval profiling strategies for drug programs.
• Advise on dose selection, study design, and clinical pharmacology issues across the entire development cycle.
• Manage and interpret studies that are critical for supporting pivotal trials.
• Formulate strategies to identify initial or expansion indications and gather evidence to support these initiatives.
• Act as the Translational Medicine representative on Business Development and Licensing teams.
• Oversee clinical monitoring and review integrated safety data during and after the active study phase.
• Represent clinical Translational Medicine interests to Health Authorities and other stakeholders.
• Direct the publication strategy for Translational Medicine studies and lead the writing of scientific publications.
• Lead study-specific and clinical trial teams in collaboration with other line functions.
• Lead Business Review sub-teams on Global Project Teams for late-phase programs.
• Work closely with Translational Medicine and non-Translational Medicine line functions to ensure operational excellence.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree (MD).
• Board certification as a Dermatologist.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a pharmaceutical or biotech company, CRO, academic medical center, or a related field.
• Fluent oral and written English.

• Ph.D. in dermatology or immunology.
