EPFL seeks two PostDoc researchers for the AIMM Lab to advance biological foundation models, combining AI expertise with life sciences for drug discovery applications.

Based within the Artificial Intelligence in Molecular Medicine (AIMM) Lab, this position sits at the intersection of computer science and life sciences. The role encompasses the entire research lifecycle of biological foundation models, ranging from architectural design to the creation of agentic interfaces, while fostering collaboration with pharmaceutical partners and utilizing national supercomputing infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Design scalable architectures, tokenization methods, and novel pretraining objectives tailored for biological datasets.
  • Execute representation learning techniques across various biological data modalities.
  • Embed foundation models into systems that support reasoning and decision-making processes.
  • Translate foundation model research into practical applications for early-stage drug discovery and biomedical science.

Requirements

  • A PhD in machine learning, computer science, computational biology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Proven track record in large-scale AI projects, specifically involving pretraining, fine-tuning, or scaling on significant compute resources.
  • Strong biological background with practical familiarity with diverse biological data types.
  • A robust publication history in top-tier machine learning conferences or leading life science journals.
  • Exceptional communication abilities and a genuine passion for interdisciplinary scientific work.
