Tether seeks a Senior AI Research Engineer in Zürich to train and optimize vision-language models. The remote role involves full lifecycle development, from data curation to deployment, requiring strong research and engineering skills.
This position sits within the AI model team at Tether, focusing on the end-to-end development of vision-language models for practical application. The successful candidate will manage the entire model lifecycle, including data preparation, training pipeline design, evaluation, and optimization, while collaborating closely with a high-caliber, distributed team.
Responsibilities
- Lead research and engineering efforts for vision-language models, covering training, assessment, and optimization throughout the development process.
- Create and execute post-training strategies such as supervised fine-tuning, knowledge distillation, and reinforcement learning from human feedback.
- Curate, filter, and balance high-quality multimodal datasets tailored to specific domain requirements.
- Enhance model efficiency and deployability by applying compression and optimization methods for resource-limited settings.
- Develop evaluation frameworks and benchmarks to assess model performance, robustness, and success in real-world tasks.
- Construct and scale training workflows across distributed GPU infrastructure.
- Identify and eliminate bottlenecks in training pipelines to achieve state-of-the-art results on target benchmarks.
- Leverage and contribute to open-source ecosystems, including models, datasets, and tooling, to speed up development.
- Monitor recent advancements in multimodal learning and vision-language systems, translating findings into practical improvements.
- Publish research findings in top-tier AI conferences and journals where applicable.
Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field; MS/PhD preferred.
- Strong experience with multimodal post-training workflows including supervised fine-tuning, knowledge distillation, and reinforcement learning from feedback.
- Hands-on experience with parameter-efficient fine-tuning and distributed training frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to build and improve vision-language models with measurable results on standard benchmarks or real-world tasks.
- Experience adapting models for resource-constrained environments.
- Proven open-source contributions in multimodal AI on GitHub or HuggingFace.
- Publications at top AI conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ECCV etc.)
