The University of Zurich seeks a senior Assistant Professor in Surgery for Advanced Functional Lung Disease to lead precision medicine initiatives and cover general thoracic surgery in Zürich.
This position centers on launching a precision medicine program for patients with complex lung conditions, supported by clinical, translational, and experimental research. The appointee will join the thoracic surgery team, managing the complete range of general thoracic procedures, while contributing to the department's focus on oncology, emphysema, pulmonary hypertension, and transplantation.
Responsibilities
- Manage the entire scope of general thoracic surgical procedures.
- Potentially assume leadership of the lung transplantation program over time.
- Advance the comprehension and management of severe lung conditions, such as pulmonary fibrosis, emphysema, and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.
Requirements
- Hold board certification in either thoracic or cardiac surgery.
- Demonstrate experience in clinical leadership roles.
- Possess a habilitation or comparable academic credentials.
- Achieve German language proficiency at the B2 level, either currently or within a set timeframe.
- Show a history of obtaining competitive external research funding.
- Maintain a publication record in reputable international journals.
