This advanced fellowship, hosted by the Clinic of Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery, is designed for surgeons and physician-scientists seeking specialized training in lymphatic reconstruction. With over a decade of experience in lymphatic surgery and early adoption of robotic techniques, the clinic provides a structured program split between 60% clinical work and 40% research, allowing fellows to master supermicrosurgery workflows while contributing to scientific discovery.

Responsibilities

• Engage in outpatient consultations, perioperative management, and operating room activities under supervision.
• Demonstrate progressive clinical independence, moving from assistant roles to performing key procedural steps and selected cases.
• Take part in journal clubs and hands-on skills laboratory training sessions.
• Conduct active research, including presenting data at lab meetings and working on assigned projects.
• Shadow clinical routines, such as ward rounds and outpatient visits, in an observer capacity.
• Observe operating theatre procedures to gain insight into surgical workflows.
• Attend educational activities, conferences, and teaching sessions organized by the host clinic.
• Complete training modules focused on robotic and supermicrosurgery techniques.
• Receive scientific mentorship and dedicated time for research endeavors.
• Undergo quarterly evaluations of operative logs, skill assessments, research progress, and professional conduct.

Requirements

• Hold a medical degree that qualifies you for clinical participation in Switzerland.
• Commit to obtaining MEBEKO recognition of your medical diploma before the fellowship begins.
• Be capable of working effectively within a supervised clinical setting.
• Possess a medical or scientific background relevant to the fellowship’s focus.
• Meet eligibility criteria for observer status, which excludes direct patient care.
• Demonstrate proficiency in English, the primary working language of the program.
• Show strong motivation to engage in surgical education and research activities.
• Express a genuine interest in lymphatic reconstruction and translational science.
• Be able to participate in academic meetings, teaching sessions, and research tasks.
