Novartis seeks a Clinical Sciences Trial Leader or Senior Trial Leader in Basel to manage early-phase translational medicine trials. This hybrid role requires strong project management and clinical operations expertise.
This position sits within the Clinical Sciences and Innovation group, where professionals plan and execute early-phase trials on a global scale. The successful candidate will support or lead the clinical science and operational aspects of translational medicine studies. The role is based at the Novartis headquarters in Basel and does not offer full remote work options.
Responsibilities
- Provide scientific and operational leadership for complex clinical studies.
- Manage global trial execution, covering study design, setup, recruitment, and final reporting.
- Lead matrix-managed global teams, collaborating internally and with external partners such as service providers and investigator sites.
- Develop clinical study protocols, operations execution plans, and other necessary documentation.
- Ensure high-quality conduct and adherence to documentation standards throughout the trial lifecycle.
- Lead or support clinical data review processes, depending on the seniority level.
- Contribute to project or program-level planning at the senior level.
- Mentor junior team members when applicable.
- Optimize standard methodologies in clinical trial operations and foster an environment of open learning.
- Leverage data and digital tools to enhance the value of clinical studies.
Requirements
- A Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in life sciences is mandatory.
- For the Clinical Sciences Trial Leader role: 2–4 years of experience in clinical trial management or operations.
- For the Senior Clinical Sciences Trial Leader role: 4+ years of experience in clinical trial management or operations.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities and strong interpersonal skills (required for the Senior level).
- Proven experience in project management.
- High adaptability to change, with the ability to thrive in an open and dynamic environment.
Nice to have
- A Master of Science (MSc), PharmD, or PhD degree is preferred.
- Prior experience in study design and protocol development or writing is highly valued.
