CERN seeks an Entry Level Computing Engineer for its IT Storage and Data Management group to support CERNBox and large-scale data infrastructure in Geneva.
This position sits within the IT Storage and Data Management group, focusing on enabling robust data access for the laboratory and the Large Hadron Collider. The successful candidate will join the CERNBox team, delivering cloud storage solutions to the CERN community while ensuring interoperability with other European research infrastructures.
Responsibilities
- Build and integrate backend software components.
- Package and deploy interoperable services in distributed environments using Kubernetes and Helm.
- Contribute code, features, and fixes to CERNBox open-source projects.
- Implement the Open Cloud Mesh (OCM) protocol for the Reva backend.
- Support the CERN community by troubleshooting incidents and supporting users.
- Work with partner institutions and research infrastructures across Europe to test, validate and refine tools.
- Support users and partner teams with troubleshooting and guidance during tool adoption.
Requirements
- National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- Maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Computer Engineering or a related field.
- Highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
- Never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
- Must have a University degree; applicants without one are not eligible.
- Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
- Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language.
