Cooling and Ventilation Engineer (EN-CV-PJ-2026-162-LD)

CERN seeks a Cooling and Ventilation Engineer in Geneva to manage the full lifecycle of HVAC and cooling systems for its physics facilities, from design through commissioning.

This position supports the group tasked with designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining cooling and ventilation infrastructure for large-scale energy physics accelerators and technical facilities. The role encompasses the entire project cycle, starting with the collection of user requirements and concluding with final commissioning and formal acceptance.

Responsibilities

  • Define and gather technical requirements from primary stakeholders.
  • Conduct feasibility assessments and create detailed designs for industrial cooling and HVAC systems, including sizing calculations and cost projections.
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and notes.
  • Draft technical specifications and manage the tendering process through to contract award.
  • Track project progress and provide regular status updates.
  • Coordinate and supervise contractor activities to ensure technical compliance.
  • Monitor project budgets and schedules until commissioning and formal handover.
  • Assist operational teams in troubleshooting and improving existing plant processes.
  • Help develop and refine internal procedures and standardization protocols.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proven background in designing, building, and testing industrial cooling systems.
  • Initial experience with HVAC installations and their associated hydraulic components.
  • Demonstrated capability in managing contracts.
  • Solid experience in project management.
  • Fluent spoken and written English.

Nice to have

  • Project management certification such as PMP or PMI.
