CERN seeks an Electrical Technician intern in Geneva to support HL-LHC magnet development through electrical testing and instrumentation tasks. This permanent onsite role is open to nationals of CERN Member or Associate Member States.
The position focuses on the qualification and characterization of High Temperature Superconductor (HTS) tapes and cables for the HL-LHC upgrade and high-field magnet development. The successful candidate will receive training in cryogenics, superconductivity, magnet building, and high current transfer lines while contributing to experimental testing and system validation.
Responsibilities
- Execute reel-to-reel indirect critical current measurements.
- Carry out direct critical current and contact resistance measurements.
- Analyze experimental test results and present findings.
- Install instrumentation within superconducting magnets.
- Assist in the assembly and testing of 100 kA class power transmission systems for the HL-LHC.
- Verify and validate instrumentation integrated into these power systems.
Requirements
- Possess experience in electrical testing or material testing.
- Be a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- Have no more than two years of professional experience since graduation in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or a related field.
- Hold a general secondary education diploma as the highest educational qualification.
- Have never held a CERN fellow or graduate contract previously.
- Obtain medical clearance prior to contract confirmation.
- Hold a valid driving licence.
