CERN seeks an Entry Level Electro-Mechanical Technician in Geneva to support the development and commissioning of High Temperature Superconducting cables and coils. This permanent, onsite role is open to nationals of CERN Member or Associate Member States.
The position focuses on the creation and operation of High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) technologies, specifically involving REBCO tapes. The technician will be responsible for the design, assembly, and commissioning of specialized winding and cabling machines, ensuring the mechanical properties and quality of these advanced materials are rigorously tested and integrated into HTS coils and cables.
Responsibilities
- Conduct quality control checks and perform measurements on REBCO tapes.
- Assist in qualifying the mechanical properties of REBCO tapes.
- Create diagrams, handle wiring, program PLCs, and commission electro-mechanical systems.
- Support the integration and application of REBCO tapes within HTS coils and cables.
Requirements
- Possess experience in electrical or material testing.
- Demonstrate ability to read and draw circuit diagrams.
- Be a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- Have no more than two years of professional experience since graduation in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or a related field.
- Hold a general secondary education diploma as the highest educational qualification.
- Have never held a CERN fellow or graduate contract previously.
- Work effectively both independently and within teams.
- Show reliability and autonomy.
- Speak and write English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.
Nice to have
- Experience in cabling and commissioning electrical cabinets or machines.
- Background in mechanical assembly.
- Knowledge of instrumentation and data acquisition.
