Engineering Software Manager

The company seeks an Engineering Software Manager in Zürich to lead a team developing advanced robotic software, combining hands-on C++/Python development with people management and agile delivery.

The company is expanding its engineering group and needs a leader to guide the creation of software for next-generation robotic systems. This position combines hands-on technical work with team leadership to drive innovation and reliable delivery.

Responsibilities

• Guide, coach, and assist software engineers developing advanced robotic applications
• Cultivate a cooperative, results-driven environment that values innovation, accountability, and ongoing enhancement
• Partner with Tech Leads and Product Owners to set technical goals, priorities, and delivery schedules
• Participate directly in software architecture, design, and coding, mainly using C++ and Python
• Direct the group in creating reliable, maintainable, and scalable solutions within Linux environments
• Maintain high code quality via reviews, automated testing, CI/CD workflows, and established engineering standards
• Oversee recruitment, onboarding, performance reviews, and professional development for team members
• Collaborate with robotics engineers, QA, product management, and system teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery
• Identify and resolve technical or organizational obstacles to support efficient project execution
• Enhance development workflows, tooling, observability, and system reliability over time

Requirements

• Multiple years of software engineering experience, including leadership or people management duties
• Proficient hands-on coding abilities in C++ and/or Python
• Background with distributed systems, real-time or embedded setups, or complex backend architectures
• Deep knowledge of software architecture, state management, fault tolerance, and scalable system design
• Demonstrated success leading teams through collaboration, coaching, and clear communication
• Familiarity with modern development practices like CI/CD, automated testing, debugging, and code reviews
• Strong organizational and stakeholder management capabilities
• Pragmatic approach balancing delivery focus with long-term software maintainability
• Comfortable working in agile and cross-functional environments
• Fluent English communication skills
