Johnson & Johnson seeks a Director to lead global engineering and automation strategies for its MedTech distribution network, overseeing large-scale DC projects and technology integration.
This position directs the centralized engineering function for J&J MedTech’s delivery operations. The role partners with regional teams to define and execute strategies for automation, equipment lifecycle management, and operational technology across the global distribution network. It ensures that all engineering initiatives align with enterprise architecture, cybersecurity standards, and compliance requirements while driving the successful implementation of major capital projects.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement global engineering strategies for distribution center automation and equipment systems.
- Manage end-to-end engineering programs from initial concept through implementation, go-live, and operational stabilization.
- Collaborate with regional engineering groups to provide standardized, scalable solutions across the global network.
- Oversee engineering workstreams for both greenfield and brownfield distribution center projects.
- Lead the design, specification, and deployment of automation and material handling equipment.
- Ensure successful operational handoff for major capital projects.
- Define operational requirements and support the deployment of Warehouse Control Systems (WCS) for automated environments.
- Facilitate the integration of automation systems with enterprise platforms.
- Support knowledge transfer and long-term system sustainability at the site level.
- Partner with J&J Technology (JJT, ISRM) to ensure seamless integration into enterprise systems.
- Align engineering solutions with cybersecurity, network infrastructure, and compliance requirements (e.g., SOX, validated systems).
- Ensure adherence to system validation standards (CSV, SDLC).
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in engineering, automation, or distribution systems.
- Proven track record in warehouse automation and material handling systems.
- Proven track record in large-scale capital project execution (DC builds, upgrades).
- Proven track record in equipment specification, validation (IQ/OQ/PQ), and lifecycle management.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related technical field) required.
- Deep expertise in distribution center automation, robotics, and material handling systems.
- Strong knowledge of control systems (PLC, HMI, SCADA, WCS).
- Experience with Computer System Validation (CSV) and SDLC processes.
- Strong vendor management and capital project leadership capabilities.
- Ability to lead cross-functional, global teams in a matrix environment.
Nice to have
- Experience working within regulated environments (GMP, medical device, pharma) preferred.
- Master’s degree in engineering or related discipline preferred.
- Six Sigma certification.
- Experience with high-throughput automated distribution or manufacturing environments.
