Automation Engineer

SHL Medical seeks an Automation Engineer in Zug to develop and industrialize automated manufacturing equipment, ensuring technical robustness and production alignment.

The company is looking for a professional to lead the specification, development, and industrialization of automated manufacturing systems. This role involves collaborating with external suppliers and internal engineering teams to ensure that automation solutions are scalable, technically sound, and ready for serial production from the initial concept phase through to pilot implementation.

Responsibilities

• Establish automation concepts and define machine specifications aligned with product and process needs.
• Serve as the primary technical contact for suppliers, conducting design reviews and making key technical decisions.
• Oversee or assist in equipment realization and validation activities, including Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
• Implement pilot systems and validate process capability and performance metrics.
• Facilitate the transition to serial production and promote standardization across different sites.
• Identify and drive performance improvements regarding cycle time, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), and scrap reduction.
• Work cross-functionally to guarantee that all equipment is ready for full-scale industrialization.

Requirements

• At least five years of professional experience in automation, equipment development, or system integration.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or a comparable field.
• Proven background working with machine builders and within industrial manufacturing environments.
• Solid knowledge of PLCs, robotics, vision systems, FAT/SAT procedures, and manufacturing KPIs such as OEE, cycle time, and yield.
• Fluent proficiency in both written and spoken German.
• Fluent proficiency in both written and spoken English.

Nice to have

• Prior experience in injection molding processes.
• Fluency in written and spoken Mandarin.
• Hands-on involvement in product development from initial ideation to launch within the medical device sector.
