Automation Engineer

SHL Medical AG seeks an Automation Engineer in Zug to develop and industrialize automated manufacturing equipment, ensuring technical robustness and production alignment.

The company is looking for a professional to lead the development, specification, and industrialization of automated manufacturing systems. This role involves collaborating with external suppliers and internal engineering teams to ensure that automation solutions are scalable, technically sound, and ready for serial production from the initial concept phase through to pilot implementation.

Responsibilities

• Create automation concepts and define machine specifications based on product and process needs.
• Serve as the technical liaison with suppliers, conducting design reviews and making key technical decisions.
• Oversee or support equipment realization and validation processes, including Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
• Develop and implement pilot systems, verifying process capability and performance.
• Facilitate the transfer to serial production and standardize processes across different sites.
• Drive performance improvements by optimizing cycle time, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), and reducing scrap.
• Work cross-functionally to ensure end-to-end industrialization readiness.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in automation, equipment development, or system integration.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience working with machine builders and in industrial environments.
• Knowledge of PLCs, robotics, vision systems, FAT/SAT procedures, and manufacturing KPIs such as OEE, cycle time, and yield.

Nice to have

• Experience in Injection Molding.
• Fluent written and spoken German skills.
• Hands-on experience in product development from ideation to launch in the Medical Device Industry.
