Global Laboratory Workplace Expert

Roche seeks a Senior Global Laboratory Workplace Expert in Basel to drive continuous improvement in lab environments, translating scientific needs into sustainable workplace solutions.

This position is responsible for leading the strategic evolution of laboratory spaces worldwide. The expert ensures that global lab infrastructure supports employee innovation and aligns with long-term corporate goals by managing demand, optimizing portfolios, and providing technical guidance.

Responsibilities

• Conducting lab demand analysis across the global site network to convert scientific workflow insights and user feedback into efficient space-allocation standards.
• Managing the lab infrastructure portfolio by identifying technical and spatial gaps, then developing solutions that support long-term corporate targets.
• Facilitating the Global Laboratory Workplace Expert Panel to steer monthly collaborative meetings and align infrastructure proposals with corporate design principles.
• Providing specialized advice on lab planning during the early design phases of global laboratory facilities.
• Orchestrating global knowledge sharing through the Global Lab Knowledge Hub to document and scale best-in-class, sustainable solutions.
• Refining the laboratory performance framework and partnering with local teams to establish benchmarks for efficiency and environmental footprint reduction.

Requirements

• A university-level degree (MSc or equivalent) in a scientific or technical discipline.
• At least eight years of experience in laboratory design, facility strategy, or workspace planning within the life sciences industry.
• Proven track record of working within complex, global organizational structures.
• Ability to advise and influence senior stakeholders and local site teams without relying on direct authority.
• Strong proficiency in data analytics and visualization tools to track progress against environmental and performance indicators.
• Excellent professional English language skills, both written and spoken.

• Basic German language skills, with a commitment to further learning.
• Proficiency in additional languages is considered an advantage.
