Roche seeks a Senior Scientific Outsourcing Manager in Basel to orchestrate external workflows, manage CRO partnerships, and ensure compliant, efficient drug development processes.
This position is responsible for directing end-to-end external processes for the Pharmaceutical Sciences division. The role bridges internal expertise with a worldwide network of laboratory partners, ensuring that complex, multi-disciplinary workflows are carried out quickly, with full data integrity and regulatory adherence.
Responsibilities
- Consolidate scattered outsourcing activities into a single, portfolio-wide system featuring automated pipelines for samples and data.
- Oversee vendor performance, improve data sharing, and remove operational or scientific bottlenecks.
- Manage a selected group of top-tier Contract Research Organisations (CROs) and technology partners.
- Monitor partner performance through dynamic metrics and address scientific or operational challenges.
- Implement AI-driven forecasting to predict workflow volumes and align demands with suitable partners.
- Incorporate real-time financial monitoring to enhance cost efficiency while supporting portfolio goals.
- Guarantee that all external activities strictly comply with global regulatory standards, data governance rules, and internal benchmarks.
- Conduct agile governance and audits for external partners, ensuring proper documentation and action implementation.
- Design, test, and roll out innovative outsourcing models and processes for both nonclinical and clinical areas.
- Collaborate with pRED and Roche-wide networks to scale end-to-end solutions that boost scientific productivity.
- Introduce advanced digital tools and streamline internal procedures to reduce administrative tasks for scientists.
Requirements
- A university degree in a scientific field.
- At least five years of experience managing external partnerships, such as CROs or alliances, within the pharmaceutical sector.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the drug development lifecycle, including scientific methods and regulatory frameworks for preclinical and clinical settings.
- Demonstrated success in mapping intricate processes into automated, scalable workflows, with hands-on experience in data exchange and using data-driven or predictive tools for capacity and financial forecasting.
- Proven ability to transform supplier relationships into strategic partnerships based on co-innovation and shared accountability.
- A proactive approach to streamlining processes, reducing administrative burdens for scientists, and developing rapid, creative solutions to partner challenges.
- Strong communication and matrix leadership skills, with the ability to influence without authority and align cross-functional stakeholders.
