Head of Drug Substance & New Modalities Procurement

Roche seeks a Head of Drug Substance & New Modalities Procurement in Basel to lead strategic sourcing for manufacturing partnerships and guide the procurement delivery capability.

This position serves as a key member of the Materials, Manufacturing & Capex (MMC) Procurement leadership team, reporting to the Chapter Lead within Global Procurement. The role is responsible for providing strategic vision, guidance, and prioritization to the Procurement Delivery capability area, ensuring alignment with global business objectives.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the strategic management of a varied portfolio of manufacturing partnerships for Drug Substances and New Modalities.
• Develop and execute procurement strategies across international regions, including Europe, North America, and Asia, in collaboration with cross-functional teams and external partners.
• Manage the balance between established commercial partnerships and the specific needs of high-growth technology platforms and new pipeline assets.
• Direct the end-to-end procurement lifecycle, including strategic outsourcing, site selection, and long-term supplier relationship management.
• Serve as a Delivery domain lead, offering thought leadership, advice, and expertise on delivery capability strategies and best practices.
• Drive performance and category strategies for Roche Pharma’s global spend within designated category areas.
• Ensure achievement of Global Procurement Balanced Score Card targets by translating strategy into business-specific needs and results.
• Collaborate with the Head of Drug Product Global Procurement to standardize strategies, processes, and supplier bases.
• Lead, guide, and develop a team of Procurement Category Experts and Specialists.
• Act as a role model for team performance and professional development.

Requirements

• University degree, preferably in Business or Life Sciences.
• Over 10 years of experience in procurement, covering both strategic and operational aspects.
• Demonstrated success in building, managing, and cultivating medium-to-large global teams.
• Deep understanding of external manufacturing processes and end-to-end procurement operations.
• Solid experience in managing complex project or organizational change.
• Business-level fluency in English.
