Category Manager Procurement

Abbott seeks a Senior Category Manager for Procurement in Basel to lead global supplier strategies and drive supply chain efficiency within its Branded Generics division.

This position sits within the Branded Generics business, a core part of Abbott’s mission to provide trusted, high-quality medicines to millions of people daily. The role focuses on leveraging science and diverse perspectives to optimize procurement processes and support the company’s global healthcare goals.

Responsibilities

• Create and execute global strategies for supplier relationships that address financial, operational, quality, and regulatory needs.
• Enhance understanding of supply market trends to inform procurement planning and strategy.
• Track market dynamics in peer organizations to enable effective benchmarking.
• Achieve savings targets set by the LRP Supplier Relationship Office.
• Drive annual performance gains through strategic initiatives and key metrics.
• Maintain a roadmap for supplier relationship experience and ensure alignment with EPD standards.
• Oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of global material flows and associated financials.
• Analyze supplier costs within the EPD SRO framework.
• Minimize operational disruptions from regulatory changes or turn them into competitive advantages.
• Plan and execute strategic GPROC programs, including regional or global supplier base re-engineering.
• Optimize the EPD GPROC supplier structure to expand the network and improve compliance and efficiency.
• Lead or support large-scale change management efforts.
• Facilitate global supplier integration and acquisition activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent educational background.
• 5 to 10 years of experience in global supply chain and procurement.
• Management experience in team and project leadership, ideally within the pharmaceutical sector.
• Proven track record of managing large distribution and transportation budgets.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Word and Excel, plus strong working knowledge of SAP R/3.
• Fluency in English.

• Graduate degree or professional certification such as an MBA or CPA.
• Proficiency in additional languages.
