Bachem seeks a Senior IT Enterprise Architect in Bubendorf to lead manufacturing IT strategy, ensuring compliance with pharma regulations while driving digital transformation and integration across global operations.

Operating within the Global IT team, this position is responsible for steering the company’s continuous organic growth through technology. The incumbent will define and execute the Manufacturing Enterprise Architecture roadmap, ensuring it remains tightly aligned with the broader business strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and enforce architecture principles, standards, and technology roadmaps for global manufacturing initiatives.
  • Lead the technological design for new manufacturing sites and the upgrading of current facilities.
  • Architect and manage the integration between operational technology (OT), manufacturing systems, and core enterprise platforms.
  • Guarantee adherence to GMP, 21 CFR Part 11, Annex 11, and other relevant pharmaceutical regulatory standards.
  • Define strategies for enterprise integration, API management, middleware, and data platforms, including master data management (MDM) and advanced analytics.
  • Facilitate real-time data flow between manufacturing operations and business systems using Industry 4.0 technologies.
  • Champion digital manufacturing projects such as MES, digital twins, predictive maintenance, batch analytics, and electronic batch records (eBR).
  • Collaborate with senior business, engineering, quality, and regulatory leaders to align architectural choices with business goals.
  • Mentor fellow architects, guide strategic technology selections, and oversee governance, vendor assessments, and due diligence.

Requirements

  • Over 10 years of progressive IT architecture experience, including at least 5 years in a Senior or Principal Enterprise Architect capacity.
  • Demonstrated background in the pharmaceutical or life sciences sector, with deep knowledge of GxP, CSV/CSA, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Extensive understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing environments, particularly involving greenfield or major brownfield facility projects.
  • Strong expertise in enterprise application architecture, preferably with SAP S/4HANA.
  • Proven success in designing and governing large-scale enterprise integration architectures and API ecosystems.
  • Experience in defining and implementing enterprise data strategies, including data platforms, MDM, analytics, and data lake architecture.
  • Practical experience with digital manufacturing technologies such as MES, SCADA, DCS, eBR, LIMS, or similar platforms.
  • Solid grasp of Industry 4.0 concepts, OT/IT convergence, industrial cybersecurity, IoT, and advanced manufacturing principles.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with Enterprise Architecture frameworks such as TOGAF; holding a certification is a plus.
