EPFL seeks a Mid-level IT Systems Administrator & Software Developer to support the CIBM community. The position combines infrastructure management with software development for biomedical imaging platforms.
This position delivers advanced IT support and administrative services to the CIBM network, which spans five founding partner institutions. The role also involves building and maintaining software solutions that help the organization reach its strategic goals.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate with partner institutions to deploy, maintain, and integrate a biomedical imaging data platform.
- Build new features and modify microservices for the imaging platform.
- Oversee IT infrastructure, including servers and workstations.
- Handle IT operations for websites and applications.
- Administer the resource booking system and provide user support.
- Ensure video-conferencing systems function correctly during events.
- Support users, evaluate IT equipment, procure hardware, and configure software.
- Manage access rights, user accounts, and shared storage configurations.
- Install and configure workstations and peripherals.
- Maintain IT equipment, manage inventory, and track issues.
- Establish backup policies for critical shared machines and advise on personal devices.
- Enhance server security following best practices.
- Develop custom software and hardware solutions for infrastructure needs.
- Create and deploy internal applications for calendar, project, and purchasing management.
Requirements
- Degree in computer science (HES, university, or EPF) or equivalent.
- Proficiency in containerization and CI/CD tools like Docker and GitLab.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes.
- Scripting and automation skills using bash.
- Strong understanding of networks and IT infrastructure.
- Experience with Linux, Windows Server (GPO/Active Directory), and Mac administration.
- Solid knowledge of cybersecurity principles.
- C1 proficiency in French.
- C1 proficiency in English.
- Ability to work autonomously and adapt to changing needs.
- Strong prioritization skills and initiative.
- Clear communication skills for explaining technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Nice to have
- Basic web development skills in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and frameworks like Next.js or Express.
- Experience with network storage products such as Synology or QNAP.
- Knowledge of virtualization (Proxmox) and remote server management (iDRAC).
