Member of Technical Staff - Image / Video Generation

Black Forest Labs seeks a Senior Member of Technical Staff to train large-scale diffusion models for image and video generation in Freiburg, CH. The role combines rigorous experimentation with practical model optimization.

This position focuses on advancing image and video generation through the training of large-scale diffusion models. The successful candidate will design and execute experiments to determine which architectural decisions yield the most significant improvements, ensuring that theoretical rigor aligns with practical production outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Develop and train large-scale diffusion transformer models tailored for image and video datasets.
• Conduct systematic ablation studies to isolate specific variables, ensuring that design choices are validated through rigorous experimentation.
• Analyze and balance the trade-offs between inference speed and output quality for neural network architectures in live environments.
• Adapt and fine-tune diffusion models for niche tasks, such as creating upscaling tools or inpainting and outpainting solutions.

Requirements

• Proven track record of training large-scale diffusion models specifically for visual media.
• Demonstrated ability to fine-tune diffusion architectures for specialized use cases.
• Comprehensive knowledge of evaluation methodologies for generative image and video models.
• Expert-level proficiency in PyTorch, transformer structures, and the broader modern deep learning stack.
• Strong grasp of distributed training methodologies and their implementation.

Nice to have

• Experience developing custom forward and backward Triton kernels.
• Skill in profiling, debugging, and optimizing operations across single and multi-GPU setups.
• Insight into the performance implications of various architectural decisions at scale.
• A history of published research that has influenced the understanding of generative models.
