Verity is seeking a Senior Machine Vision Engineer in Zürich to develop perception systems for autonomous drone fleets, converting sensor data into actionable warehouse inventory insights.
The company develops autonomous drone fleets that merge advanced sensing with data science to improve productivity in commercial warehouses. In this role, you will join the Inventory Insights squad to transform RGB and depth data from drone-mounted sensors into reliable insights that support zero-error warehousing for global clients.
Responsibilities
- Develop the perception stack to convert raw 2D and 3D drone sensor data into accurate inventory signals, including barcode reads, occupancy estimates, pallet segmentation, and item counts.
- Adapt, fine-tune, and evaluate open-weight models for detection, segmentation, and vision-language tasks within warehouse settings.
- Create robust solutions to handle real-world challenges such as occlusion, poor lighting, reflective packaging, and partial views.
- Analyze failures using real drone data and iterate to improve production systems.
- Optimize models for deployment on drone hardware, cloud inference, or both.
- Visit client sites to understand warehouse operations and translate ambiguous operational needs into technically tractable perception problems.
- Work closely with clients to scope problems for feasibility and impact, ensuring shipped solutions measurably improve operations rather than just achieving benchmark numbers.
Requirements
- MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Machine Learning, or Computer Vision, or equivalent practical experience.
- Several years of hands-on experience building computer vision or machine learning systems that have been deployed to real users.
- Strong practical expertise in deep learning for visual perception, including training, fine-tuning, evaluation, and failure analysis.
- Experience in at least some of: object detection, segmentation, depth estimation, OCR, 3D perception, or multimodal vision models.
- Solid proficiency in Python and comfort with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Clear communication skills in English.
- A product mindset focused on understanding client needs and shipping solutions that improve operations.
Nice to have
- Experience with open-weight foundation models for vision or multimodal reasoning.
- Knowledge of edge deployment techniques such as ONNX, TensorRT, quantization, and edge GPUs.
- Familiarity with RGBD data, time-of-flight cameras, or point clouds.
- Background in robotics, warehouse automation, or industrial perception.
What the company offers
- Ownership within a flat structure, with minimal layers of approval between you and decision-makers.
- Collaboration with experienced engineers and researchers shipping autonomous systems into real warehouses, with opportunities for career growth as the company scales.
- Hybrid work setup with flexible hours to accommodate personal commitments like school pickups, dog walks, or lunchtime training.
- Flexible annual leave, employee stock ownership plan (conditions apply), choice of pension plans, and relocation support for moves to Zurich.
- A dedicated buddy to guide you through onboarding and your first month.
- Annual offsites, regular get-togethers, knowledge-sharing talks, and game nights. The office is dog-friendly and stocked with breakfast, fruit, snacks, drinks, and great coffee.
