Machine Learning Engineer (Semantic Scene Understanding)

Harmattan AI seeks a Senior Machine Learning Engineer for its Semantic Scene Understanding team in Paris to develop advanced algorithms for aerial imagery and tactical defense systems.

This position sits within the Semantic Scene Understanding team at Harmattan AI, a defense prime focused on building autonomous and scalable systems for allied forces. The company recently secured $200M in Series B funding, reaching a $1.4 billion valuation, and is expanding its capabilities to deliver mission-critical technology.

Responsibilities

• Develop and train cutting-edge machine learning models for semantic segmentation, object detection, and classification specifically for aerial imagery.
• Create high-level tactical features based on semantic data, including real-time road vectorization, trafficability analysis, and dynamic obstacle mapping.
• Design pipelines that align semantic data from multiple UAVs in time and space to form a unified Common Operational Picture.
• Optimize and deploy algorithms into the tactical C2 platform using quantization, pruning, and hardware acceleration to satisfy real-time compute limits.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a closely related discipline.
• Strong grasp of Machine Learning theory, Linear Algebra, and 3D-Geometry algorithms.
• Proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks, particularly PyTorch.
• Experience with C++ and inference optimization tools like TensorRT, ONNX Runtime, or CUDA is preferred.
• Capability to transition a feature from an ArXiv paper to a ruggedized tactical PC.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to work with software engineers and hardware teams.

Nice to have

• A PhD is considered a strong advantage.
• Proven experience shipping CV/ML algorithms in production, especially for edge/embedded systems or aerial (EO/IR) imagery.
