MSAT Digital Innovation Engineer (2 years limited)

Johnson & Johnson seeks a Digital Innovation Engineer for a 2-year fixed-term role in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. The position supports digital transformation in manufacturing operations for biotherapeutics, focusing on data-driven tools and GMP-compliant implementations.

This role is part of the Manufacturing Science & Technology (MSAT) team within the MTO Biotherapeutics Platform, supporting parenteral filling, visual inspection, device assembly, and packaging operations at J&J Innovative Medicine Schaffhausen. It belongs to a newly formed team dedicated to deploying digital tools and shop floor technologies, with a 2-year contract at 80-100% capacity.

Responsibilities

• Act as the site MSAT expert for digital tools including dashboards, automated reporting, and data-driven workflows.
• Conduct pilot studies for new software or tools, evaluating their value, usability, and compliance with GMP standards.
• Lead digital solution implementation projects and assist with validation processes, including documentation and testing with QA/CSV.
• Present project progress and strategies in various forums, including leadership meetings and steering committees.
• Support data-driven investigations using statistical analysis in non-conformance cases; may assist in updating local Advanced Process Control models with global SMEs.
• Assist during internal and health authority inspections as a subject matter expert, covering tool documentation, application, and training.
• Develop strong cross-functional relationships with Manufacturing, Quality, Automation/IT, Analytics, and Engineering teams.

Requirements

• A university degree in Engineering, Data Science, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Informatics, or equivalent, with a PhD or at least two years of pharmaceutical industry experience.
• Experience converting business needs into digital requirements (e.g., user stories), working with manufacturing data sources (e.g., MES, LIMS, process historian systems), and developing or managing BI/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Python, Tableau) in regulated environments.
• Demonstrated project leadership in GMP-regulated life sciences settings, capable of driving cross-functional delivery from requirements to implementation and long-term support.
• Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities, along with excellent communication skills to represent MSAT in cross-functional and cross-site teams within the global matrix structure.
• Proficiency in English is required.

Nice to have

• Practical experience with digital tools such as dashboards and automated reporting, software pilots, and data-driven methods including statistics or advanced process control.
• Familiarity with platforms like Databricks and Posit.
• German language skills are an advantage.
