Johnson & Johnson seeks a Senior MSAT Emerging Technology Engineer in Schaffhausen to lead the engineering, scale-up, and deployment of advanced manufacturing solutions for biotherapeutics.
This position drives the engineering development and industrialization of innovative process and analytical technologies. The role focuses on translating scientific concepts into robust, scalable manufacturing platforms, primarily within the Biotherapeutics sector, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure successful technology transfer from concept to commercial production.
Responsibilities
- Identify, assess, and introduce new technologies into manufacturing workflows.
- Plan and execute Proof of Process and Proof of Concept studies to verify engineering feasibility, scalability, and GMP integration.
- Oversee equipment selection, process design, and system integration across lab, pilot, and commercial scales.
- Provide technical expertise in automation, PAT integration, and process control for PI and IQRTR initiatives.
- Create and implement process control strategies featuring inline/online monitoring and advanced analytics.
- Support scale-up/down activities, equipment design, and digital modeling to enhance manufacturing performance.
- Convert scientific ideas into deployable engineering solutions and standardized platforms.
- Contribute to the engineering roadmap for PI and IQRTR technologies.
- Pinpoint high-impact technology deployment opportunities based on scalability, cost-benefit, and operational simplicity.
- Promote standardization and platform approaches for efficient global deployment.
- Maintain engineering knowledge regarding manufacturing technologies, automation, and analytical integration.
- Lead or support technology transfer and scale-up activities to ensure robust implementation at receiving sites.
Requirements
- Degree in Engineering or a related field such as Chemical, Bioprocess, Mechanical, or Automation.
- B.S./M.S. with 4–6 years of relevant experience or Ph.D. with 0–2 years of experience.
- Demonstrated experience in process engineering, technology scale-up, or manufacturing implementation.
- Strong engineering background with expertise in areas like Bioprocess/Chemical/Pharmaceutical Engineering, Process design and scale-up, Automation & digital systems, PAT integration, Advanced process control and modeling, or Data analytics.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
Nice to have
- Experience with manufacturing technologies across small/large molecules, vaccines, or advanced therapies.
- Experience in equipment design, automation systems, or process integration.
- Experience in GMP environments, regulatory expectations, and technical documentation.
