Post-Doctoral Scientist Emerging Technologies

The company seeks a Post-Doctoral Scientist for its MSAT Emerging Technologies team in Schaffhausen, CH, to develop and validate continuous manufacturing concepts for biologics drug products.

This position operates at the intersection of drug product research and development, process engineering, and advanced analytics. The primary objective is to redefine biologics drug product manufacturing by developing and experimentally validating continuous manufacturing concepts in collaboration with R&D colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute laboratory-scale experiments to create continuous manufacturing processes.
• Produce and interpret data regarding critical quality attributes and process performance.
• Apply Process Analytical Technology for real-time monitoring and control.
• Enhance process understanding through data-driven methods like DOE and chemometrics, or mechanistic approaches.
• Convert laboratory results into proof-of-principle and proof-of-concept documentation.
• Collaborate with R&D, MSAT, Quality, and Digital teams to move technologies toward GMP readiness.
• Support intellectual property creation, including patents and publications.

Requirements

• PhD in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biotechnology, or a related discipline, with 0–2 years post-PhD experience preferred.
• Extensive practical laboratory experience in biopharmaceutical development, analytical sciences, or related fields.
• Background in biologics drug product development or formulation, continuous manufacturing or process intensification, Process Analytical Technology or analytical development, or process engineering and control.
• Demonstrated capability to design experiments and derive insights from data.

Nice to have

• Experience with continuous compounding, mixing concepts, or aseptic manufacturing for biologics.
• Familiarity with PAT tools, sensors, and real-time data analysis.
• Knowledge of GMP environments and scale-up principles.
• Programming or data analysis skills (Python, MATLAB, R).
