Julius Bär seeks a Senior Platform Owner in Zürich to lead the technical vision and roadmap for its global enterprise data platform, ensuring scalability, compliance, and innovation in a regulated financial environment.
The company is seeking a strategic leader to define and drive the technical direction of its global data platform. This position is responsible for enabling data-driven decision-making across the organization by transforming how foundational data infrastructure is built, scaled, and governed. The role balances the need for rapid innovation with robust operational stability and strict regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Establish the long-term technical strategy, multi-year roadmap, and lifecycle management for the global data platform.
- Collect input from internal stakeholders and maintain relationships with users to align the platform’s technical vision with current and future business goals.
- Guarantee platform reliability, security, and performance by integrating non-functional requirements, observability tools, automation, and resilience principles.
- Oversee the prioritization and delivery of platform features, coordinating with Product Managers, Scrum Masters, development teams, and Release Train Engineers to manage Agile workflows.
- Manage the platform backlog, defining clear initiatives and user stories while balancing innovation, technical debt reduction, and operational stability.
- Act as the main technical contact for resolving incidents, audit findings, and risk-related issues concerning the platform.
- Define and track Service Level Agreements (SLAs), Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to assess platform health, usage, and business value.
- Promote standardization and simplification within the platform ecosystem to enhance interoperability, reduce complexity, and accelerate delivery timelines.
- Mentor Technical Leads and development teams, encouraging best practices in coding, testing, deployment, and incident response.
- Design the target operating model for platform operations, including staffing, governance structures, RACI definitions, and handover processes to support sustainable growth.
- Represent the platform in executive forums and governance bodies, communicating progress, risks, investments, and strategic decisions to technology and business stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
- Over 10 years of experience in technology roles within large, regulated enterprises, ideally in financial services.
- Demonstrated experience in owning, leading, or scaling large-scale data platforms, preferably using big data technologies.
- History of defining and executing technical platform visions and roadmaps in enterprise settings.
- Practical knowledge of modern data technologies including Apache Spark, Iceberg, Trino, Kafka, Kubernetes, Snowflake, Databricks, or Hadoop ecosystems.
- Deep understanding of Agile methodologies, DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience managing cross-functional initiatives with multiple technical teams, vendors, and domains, demonstrating influence without direct authority.
- Familiarity with risk and compliance frameworks relevant to Swiss financial institutions, including experience addressing audit points or IT risk items.
- Strong technical leadership and systems thinking abilities, capable of balancing short-term delivery with long-term platform sustainability.
- Excellent communication skills, able to summarize complex issues for management and discuss technical details with development teams.
- Expertise in software lifecycle governance, technical debt management, vulnerability remediation, and release approval processes.
- Proficiency in road-mapping, backlog refinement, dependency management, and translating business capabilities into actionable technical initiatives.
- Comfortable with significant business and consumer interaction.
- Solid understanding of non-functional requirements including performance, availability, recoverability, monitoring, logging, and security-by-default.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to make data-informed decisions using KPIs, telemetry, and feedback loops.
