Roche seeks a Portfolio Strategy & Delivery Lead in Basel to direct pRED Clinical Operations strategy, manage discovery delivery areas, and lead a global matrixed team.
This senior leadership position sits within Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED) organization. The incumbent is responsible for leading one or more Discovery & Delivery Areas (DTAs) and holds accountability for the strategic execution of pRED Clinical Operations. The role serves as a key decision-maker for prioritizing operational strategies and driving the implementation of advanced business information systems.
Responsibilities
- Convert eSPC and DTA strategies into a unified pRED Clinical Operations portfolio plan that aligns business objectives with available budgets and resources.
- Act as the primary authority for prioritizing strategic operational decisions within Discovery & Delivery Areas.
- Utilize data analytics, informatics, and artificial intelligence to support evidence-based decision-making processes.
- Build and sustain collaborative partnerships with senior internal leaders across the Roche enterprise.
- Establish and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including patient advocacy groups, therapeutic experts, health authorities, vendors, and development partners.
- Lead one of the core functional areas (Asset, Study Management, Data & Technology, or People) to promote a culture of performance, ownership, and innovation.
- Define the strategic vision for the assigned functional area, emphasizing talent growth, efficient resource allocation, and future capability building.
- Manage organizational change to integrate new operating models that enhance productivity, speed, and quality.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance environment across Clinical Operations.
- Conduct ongoing performance assessments, providing continuous feedback, coaching, and management to employees.
- Lead and develop a large matrixed workforce, including direct reports who may also hold people leadership roles.
- Drive the development and implementation of an industry-leading strategy for business information systems and technologies within pRED Clinical Operations.
- Represent pRED Clinical Operations as the main decision-maker on tools and technology at key internal committees.
Requirements
- University degree or equivalent professional experience, with a preference for life sciences backgrounds.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in pharmaceutical clinical operations.
- At least 10 years of experience in global clinical operations strategy leadership.
- Deep understanding of early-phase clinical development in international pharmaceutical settings.
- Strong knowledge of clinical operations trends, issues, and the competitive landscape globally.
- Proven experience managing large matrixed organizations and groups of direct reports, including other leaders.
- Willingness to travel internationally as required by business needs.
