Roche seeks a Senior Portfolio Strategy & Delivery Lead for People within pRED in Basel. This role oversees clinical operations strategy, leading delivery areas and driving data-informed decisions to transform science into medicines.

Positioned within Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED) organization, this senior leadership role is responsible for the strategic execution of Clinical Operations. The incumbent leads one or more Discovery & Delivery Areas, acting as the primary decision-maker for prioritizing operational strategies while balancing business objectives with resource allocation.

Responsibilities

  • Convert enterprise strategies into a unified Clinical Operations portfolio plan that aligns business goals with available budgets and resources.
  • Serve as the key authority for prioritizing strategic operational decisions within Discovery & Delivery Areas.
  • Utilize data analytics, informatics, and artificial intelligence to support evidence-based decision-making processes.
  • Build and sustain strong partnerships with senior internal leaders as well as external stakeholders, including patient advocacy groups, therapeutic experts, health authorities, and vendors.
  • Lead a specific functional area (such as Asset, Study Management, Data & Technology, or People) to promote a workplace culture centered on performance, accountability, and innovation.
  • Define and communicate the strategic vision for the functional area, emphasizing talent growth and effective resource deployment.
  • Manage organizational change to implement new operating models that enhance productivity, speed, and quality.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing environment across Clinical Operations.
  • Lead and develop a matrixed workforce, including direct reports who may also hold leadership roles.
  • Establish the framework, direction, and working methods for People Leaders throughout the Clinical Operations organization.
  • Build a strong talent pipeline through strategic recruitment planning and clear career progression paths.

Requirements

  • University degree or equivalent professional experience, with a preference for a background in life sciences.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in pharmaceutical clinical operations.
  • At least 10 years of experience in global clinical operations strategy leadership.
  • Deep understanding of early-stage clinical development in international pharmaceutical settings.
  • Proven track record of managing large matrixed organizations and leading groups of direct reports.
  • Willingness to travel internationally as required by business needs.
