Roche seeks a Director-level Portfolio Strategy & Delivery Lead in Basel to shape clinical operations strategy, lead DTA delivery, and manage a matrixed team driving innovation and efficiency.

This senior strategic leadership position sits within Roche pRED Clinical Operations, acting as a key decision-maker for the department's direction. The role is responsible for defining and executing an industry-leading Clinical Operations Data Transformation & Acceleration (DTA) strategy. By leading one or more Discovery & Delivery Areas, the incumbent drives productivity, efficiency, and innovation while managing a large, matrixed organization.

Responsibilities

  • Convert enterprise eSPC and DTA strategies into a unified pRED Clinical Operations delivery portfolio, ensuring alignment with business goals, budget constraints, and resource availability.
  • Act as the primary authority for prioritizing strategic operational decisions within the DTA framework.
  • Utilize data analytics, informatics, and artificial intelligence to support and enhance data-driven decision-making processes.
  • Build and sustain collaborative partnerships with senior leaders throughout the Roche Enterprise.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including patient advocacy groups, therapeutic area experts, health authorities, vendors, and development partners.
  • Lead a specific functional area (such as Asset, Study Management, Data & Technology, or People) to cultivate a culture focused on performance, ownership, and innovation.
  • Define the strategic roadmap for the assigned functional area, emphasizing talent growth, efficient resource allocation, and future capability building.
  • Manage organizational change to implement new operating models that improve productivity, speed, and quality.
  • Promote cross-functional engagement by fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performance work environment.
  • Lead and develop a complex matrixed workforce, including direct reports who may also hold people leadership roles.
  • Conduct ongoing performance assessments, providing continuous feedback, coaching, and management to ensure individual and team impact.
  • Cultivate a broad network of internal expertise to leverage for the success of the assigned area of responsibility.

Requirements

  • University degree or equivalent professional experience, with a preferred focus in life sciences.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in pharmaceutical clinical operations.
  • At least 10 years of experience in global clinical operations strategy leadership.
  • Deep understanding of early-stage clinical development in international pharmaceutical settings.
  • Strong knowledge of clinical operations trends, issues, and the competitive landscape on a global scale.
  • Proven experience managing large matrixed organizations and groups of direct reports, including other people leaders.
  • Willingness to travel internationally as required by business needs.
