Sonova seeks a Practical Trainee in Sound Quality Engineering based in Stäfa, Switzerland. This internship focuses on R&D audio quality assessment for hearing devices during phone calls.
This position sits within the Research & Development department at Sonova, where the team’s main objective is to guarantee superior audio quality and hearing performance. The role specifically targets the enhancement of development and testing processes for audio quality in realistic usage scenarios, with a particular emphasis on phone call interactions.
Responsibilities
- Learn the hardware and software infrastructure currently utilized for evaluating audio quality during telephone conversations.
- Set up and manage Sonova hearing aids, mobile phones, and lab instruments to conduct hands-free audio quality tests.
- Develop, adjust, and upkeep measurement objects and test setups required for audio quality evaluations.
- Perform tests to assess how well phone call audio processing works across various smartphone and hearing device combinations.
- Review test data using standard software tools and assist in tool customization via basic Python scripting.
- Record test methods, findings, and suggestions clearly to share with team members and relevant stakeholders.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Acoustic Engineering, Signal Processing, or a closely related discipline.
- Fluent proficiency in English.
Nice to have
- A genuine interest in audio technologies, signal processing, telecommunications, acoustics, or hearing systems.
- Strong analytical capabilities and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to work autonomously.
- Fundamental Python programming knowledge is considered an advantage.
- Prior experience in an acoustic laboratory setting or with audio hardware is beneficial.
