Scientist (Tenure Track)

The Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) in Villigen, Switzerland, is seeking a Scientist on a tenure track to conduct research in condensed matter physics and materials science using muon spectroscopy at the SµS facility.

This tenure-track role focuses on advancing muon spectroscopy techniques within the condensed matter physics and materials science fields at the SµS facility. The position involves leading research efforts, developing detector systems, and providing technical support to facility users.

Responsibilities

• Advance detector systems for muon spectroscopy and manage all related technical matters at the SµS facility.
• Conduct research in condensed matter physics and materials science, primarily utilizing muon spectroscopy methods.
• Provide scientific and technical assistance to users of the SµS facility.
• Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present them at scientific conferences.
• Prepare grant applications and submit reports to funding agencies.
• Supervise PhD and Master students.

Requirements

• PhD degree in Physics or a related field.
• Extensive experience in muon instrumentation and the development, design, simulation, construction, and commissioning of particle detectors for muon spectroscopy.
• Experience in muon spectroscopy.
• Experience in PCB board design, 3D CAD software, C/C++, python, GEANT4, PHITS and other simulation tools.
• Very good oral and written communication skills in English.
