Postdoctoral Fellow

The Paul Scherrer Institute seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Low-Energy Muons Group to develop beta-detected NMR instrumentation and conduct condensed matter research at PSI and CERN.

This position is located within the Low-Energy Muons Group at the Laboratory for Muon Spin Spectroscopy. The successful candidate will focus on advancing experimental techniques in condensed matter physics, specifically by designing and building specialized spectrometers for use at the institute and at CERN's ISOLDE facility.

Responsibilities

• Design and construct a vacuum load-lock system for the beta-detected NMR spectrometer.
• Develop the beta-detected NMR spectrometer hardware at the ISOLDE facility at CERN.
• Conduct research in condensed matter physics and materials science using muon spin spectroscopy at PSI.
• Perform beta-detected NMR experiments at the ISOLDE / CERN site.
• Contribute actively to the growth and development of the beta-detected NMR group at ISOLDE / CERN.
• Engage in the MUONIVERSE collaboration activities.
• Publish research findings and present results at scientific conferences.

Requirements

• Hold a PhD in Experimental Physics.
• Demonstrate extensive knowledge in solid state physics, materials science, and vacuum technology.
• Possess strong practical experience with beta-detected NMR instrumentation.
• Have hands-on experience with muon spin spectroscopy techniques.
• Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
