Postdoctoral Position in Ultrafast Laser Spectroscopy of Quantum Materials

ETH Zurich seeks a Postdoc to investigate ultrafast laser spectroscopy of quantum materials, focusing on non-Hermitian phase transitions and light–matter interactions.

This postdoctoral role at ETH Zurich centers on exploring how intense ultrafast optical or Terahertz pulses can generate and probe novel dynamical states in quantum materials. A key research focus involves investigating non-Hermitian phase transitions in driven systems, aiming to uncover their microscopic origins and universal properties across strongly correlated materials.

Responsibilities

  • Design, construct, and enhance advanced ultrafast laser spectroscopy setups for optical or Terahertz applications.
  • Study ultrafast dynamical processes on femtosecond and picosecond time scales using pump–probe methods.
  • Drive the ongoing improvement of experimental infrastructure and introduce novel measurement approaches.
  • Take primary responsibility for the design, construction, optimization, and continuous expansion of the experimental platform, including optical alignment, troubleshooting, upgrades, and routine maintenance.

Requirements

  • Possess a PhD in experimental physics or a closely related field (or be nearing completion).
  • Demonstrate significant hands-on experience with ultrafast laser systems.

Nice to have

  • Background or experience in condensed-matter physics.
