Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Adaptive optics for ultrafast laser-matter interaction

The Galatea Laboratory at EPFL’s Neuchâtel campus seeks a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to advance research on laser-based methods for tailoring material properties through adaptive optics and ultrafast laser-matter interaction.

This position supports the Galatea Laboratory’s research program focused on developing laser-based techniques to modify material properties. The role involves designing and executing experiments, analyzing results, and contributing to the lab’s broader goals in advanced manufacturing and optomechanical designs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop research and experimental strategies grounded in theoretical frameworks and current literature.
  • Perform laboratory experiments and process collected data.
  • Share findings through academic publications and presentations at global conferences.
  • Work closely with colleagues within the lab and external industrial partners.
  • Provide occasional guidance to undergraduate students.
  • Assist with routine laboratory tasks and operational duties.

Requirements

  • Hold a recently awarded PhD in optics, applied physics, or a closely related discipline with solid expertise in optics.
  • Demonstrate practical experience with adaptive optics and hands-on proficiency in operating laser-based optical setups.

Nice to have

  • Interest in exploring nonlinear optics, ultrafast lasers, or laser-matter interaction phenomena.
