Postdoctoral Fellow in digital-analog quantum simulation and quantum many-body physics

Paul Scherrer Institut · Villigen PSI

The Paul Scherrer Institut seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow to advance digital-analog quantum simulation methods within the DigiAnaQSim European collaboration, focusing on theoretical frameworks for near-term quantum devices.

This role focuses on the theory behind digital-analog quantum simulation. The successful candidate will create methods that enhance programmable analog platforms by integrating concepts from quantum algorithms, learning techniques, and error mitigation. The position is part of the DigiAnaQSim project, a QuantERA collaboration involving partners in Germany, France, and Spain, providing a strong network for both theoretical and experimental work.

Responsibilities

  • Perform research in quantum information theory and many-body physics, specifically applying these to quantum simulation and computing.
  • Design theoretical frameworks and techniques for digital-analog quantum simulation on near-term hardware, with a focus on ultracold atoms in optical lattices.
  • Work closely with experimental and theoretical collaborators throughout the European DigiAnaQSim network.
  • Disseminate findings by publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Share research outcomes at national and international conferences.

Requirements

  • Hold a PhD in Physics or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrate a strong research background in quantum information theory, many-body physics, or quantum simulation.
  • Possess programming skills along with experience in analytical and numerical research methods.
  • Have good proficiency in English.

What the company offers

  • Access to systematic on-the-job training and personal development opportunities within a strong vocational training culture.
  • Modern employment conditions and on-site infrastructure designed to support work-life balance and family commitments.
