The Paul Scherrer Institute seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow in Aerosol Chemistry to conduct ambient measurements, chamber experiments, and data analysis using advanced mass spectrometry techniques.
This position is based within the Laboratory of Atmospheric Chemistry at the Paul Scherrer Institute, Switzerland’s largest research center for natural and engineering sciences. The role focuses on investigating aerosol processes through field campaigns and controlled experiments, contributing to high-impact scientific publications.
Responsibilities
- Operate sophisticated mass spectrometry instruments, including AMS, online Orbitrap-MS, VOCUS-PTR, and MIPTOF.
- Conduct ambient air measurements in areas with high pollution levels.
- Perform source apportionment studies and investigate atmospheric processes.
- Execute chamber and flowtube experiments, specifically focusing on solid fuel combustion and mixed-source scenarios.
- Publish research findings in reputable, high-impact scientific journals.
- Provide support and co-supervision to other postdoctoral fellows and PhD students during various research campaigns.
Requirements
- Hold a PhD degree in Atmospheric Science or a closely related field.
- Demonstrate proficiency in aerosol mass spectrometric methods.
- Possess strong skills in data analysis and programming, particularly with Python.
- Show a proven history of successful academic publications.
- Have excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Work effectively as part of a team.
