Postdoctoral Fellow in Volcanology and Magmatic Processes

ETH Zurich seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow in Volcanology and Magmatic Processes to lead independent research and support teaching in Zürich.

This research-oriented position, which includes teaching duties, is designed to support the career development of an early-career scientist. The role provides the opportunity to formulate and pursue original research ideas while utilizing the institution's advanced analytical infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Establish and direct an independent research agenda within magmatic petrology, volcanology, or geochronology.
• Disseminate findings through publications in reputable, peer-reviewed scientific journals.
• Share research outcomes at global academic conferences.
• Support instruction for undergraduate and graduate courses focused on petrology and volcanology.
• Engage actively in the intellectual activities and discussions within the institute and research group.

Requirements

• A recently completed PhD in Earth Sciences, specializing in igneous petrology, volcanology, or geochemistry.
• A proven track record of conducting and publishing high-quality scientific research.
• Proficiency in analytical methods, specifically in-situ techniques such as EPMA, LA-ICP-MS, or SIMS.
• Practical experience in field work, geochronology (e.g., U-Pb, Ar-Ar), and/or numerical modeling of igneous processes.
• Fluent written and oral communication skills in English.

Nice to have

• Ability to speak German is considered an advantage.
