The University of Zurich seeks a Postdoc in Economics of Education and Labor Economics for a research-heavy role in Zürich, with limited teaching duties.

This position is based at Switzerland's largest university and centers on empirical research within applied microeconomics, labor economics, and the economics of education. The role is predominantly dedicated to scholarly investigation, with teaching and administrative responsibilities comprising only about one-fifth of the workload.

Responsibilities

  • Design, execute, and publish studies in applied microeconomics, labor economics, and education economics.
  • Lead field experiments, including research design, partner coordination, data collection, and analysis.
  • Analyze experimental, survey, and administrative datasets to produce research papers, presentations, grant materials, and policy briefs.
  • Mentor and collaborate with doctoral students, research assistants, and external partners.
  • Fulfill teaching and administrative obligations, which account for roughly 20% of the position.

Requirements

  • PhD in economics or a closely related discipline completed by the start date.
  • Robust background in applied microeconomics, econometrics, and causal inference methods.
  • Demonstrated research interest in labor, personnel, or education economics within the applied micro domain.
  • Hands-on experience with field-based or experimental empirical research, such as field or survey experiments and projects involving external partners.
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently with high reliability and attention to detail.
  • Collaborative mindset with a desire to contribute actively to a research team.
  • German language proficiency at B1 level or higher, as stated in the CV.

Nice to have

  • French proficiency at B2 level or higher may replace the German requirement in exceptional circumstances.
