This position is based within the Laboratory of Atmospheric Chemistry at the Paul Scherrer Institute. The successful candidate will pursue a doctoral degree through ETH Zurich while contributing to the laboratory's scientific objectives.
Responsibilities
- Analyze filter samples from eastern Europe and Asia using ^14C techniques and aerosol mass spectrometry.
- Help create and refine workflows for methanol extraction using aerosol mass spectrometers.
- Determine the sources of organic compounds and elemental carbon across various geographic regions.
- Carry out offline measurement procedures at both the PSI facility and the University of Bern.
- Author and submit research findings to high-impact scientific journals.
- Complete and defend a doctoral thesis required for the PhD degree at ETH Zurich.
- Provide assistance to other ongoing projects within the laboratory.
Requirements
- Hold a Master's degree in Atmospheric Science or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrate strong proficiency in programming, particularly Python, and data analysis.
- Possess excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
- Work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
