Postdoctoral Fellow in Aerosol Chemistry

The Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) in Villigen, Switzerland, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow in Aerosol Chemistry to conduct ambient measurements, operate advanced mass spectrometers, and support research teams.

This position focuses on operating sophisticated mass spectrometry instruments and performing field measurements in polluted environments. The role also entails mentoring and co-supervising fellow researchers and doctoral candidates across various research campaigns.

Responsibilities

• Operate advanced mass spectrometry instruments such as AMS, online Orbitrap-MS, VOCUS-PTR, and MIPTOF.
• Carry out ambient measurements in areas with high pollution levels.
• Perform source apportionment and investigate processes relevant to the ambient environment.
• Conduct chamber and flowtube experiments focusing on solid fuel combustion and mixed source experiments.
• Publish research findings in high-impact journals.
• Support and co-supervise other Postdoctoral Fellows and PhD Students in different campaigns.

Requirements

• PhD degree in Atmospheric Science.
• Proficient in relevant aerosol mass spectrometric methods.
• In-depth experience in data analysis and programming (e.g. Python).
• Proven track record of successful publications.
• Very good oral and written English skills.
• Team player.
