IBM Research Zurich seeks a master’s student to design and test novel quantum algorithms for Hamiltonian simulations, aiming for practical quantum advantage in natural sciences.
This internship places the candidate within the Applied Quantum Science group at IBM Research Zurich. The position focuses on developing algorithms that merge quantum computing, classical high-performance computing, and artificial intelligence. The primary objective is to advance quantum advantage for real-world challenges in the natural sciences through theoretical and empirical research.
Responsibilities
- Design and analyze quantum simulation algorithms from both theoretical and practical perspectives.
- Execute and validate algorithms using IBM Quantum hardware systems.
- Investigate methods to integrate quantum processing with AI and classical high-performance computing resources.
- Contribute to the strategic development of solutions that address practical problems in scientific fields.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in physics, computer science, mathematics, or a closely related technical discipline.
- Demonstrate strong programming proficiency in languages such as Python, C/C++, or Rust.
- Possess hands-on experience with quantum programming frameworks, specifically Qiskit.
- Have a background in at least one area including quantum information theory, quantum algorithms, machine learning, quantum chemistry, materials science, or computational physics.
- Communicate effectively in English.
- Work well within a team while maintaining self-motivation and the ability to operate independently.
