Miraex seeks an intern in Lausanne to support the development and characterization of electro-optic devices for quantum computing applications. The role involves lab testing, simulation, and reporting over a 6-12 month period.
This internship supports Miraex’s mission to develop and characterize electro-optic devices within a fast-growing, investor-backed quantum computing firm. The intern will contribute to direct problem-solving with partners and clients while gaining hands-on experience in a collaborative engineering environment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct testing procedures to evaluate the electrical and optical performance of prototype devices.
- Construct or modify test setups and instrumentation benches as needed.
- Prepare and deliver presentations and written reports summarizing measurement outcomes.
- Execute theoretical calculations to forecast how devices will perform.
- Run simulations and calculations to guide the design of new device iterations.
Requirements
- Prior experience working in a laboratory setting.
- Fundamental understanding of electrical circuits and optical systems.
- Strong attention to detail and rigor in designing and executing experiments.
- Proactive attitude with a genuine interest in acquiring new technical skills.
- Proficient written and oral communication skills in English.
- Possession of Swiss/EU citizenship or a valid Swiss residence permit.
Nice to have
- Ability to communicate in French.
- Background in fiber optics and optical measurement techniques.
- Familiarity with lab instruments such as vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, function generators, and power meters.
- Experience with RF/microwave or electro-optic circuit design.
- Proficiency in simulation software like Ansys Lumerical, Ansys HFSS, COMSOL, Sonnet, AWS Palace, or LTspice.
- Previous involvement in quantum optics, device theory, or projects combining theory with experimental work.
- Strong computational thinking and automation capabilities.
- Knowledge of scientific data processing and synthesis using Python.
