This internship places candidates at the core of Lumiphase’s research and development efforts. The role supports the company’s goal of building high-performance, energy-efficient communication chips by validating hardware, analyzing measurement data, and ensuring the full potential of semiconductor designs is realized.
Responsibilities
- Design and layout custom analog electrical circuits using KiCad.
- Assemble, integrate, and debug new electrical hardware within test setups.
- Validate boards using standard laboratory measurement instruments.
- Create validation strategies for custom hardware solutions.
- Write Python scripts to control hardware, acquire data, and perform analysis.
- Document project activities, test outcomes, and design choices thoroughly.
- Analyze epitaxial thin film parameters via X-ray diffraction and light scattering.
- Develop Python tools in Databricks for data analysis, uncertainty estimation, and error detection.
- Establish criteria for data invalidation based on statistical or physical principles.
- Design experiments to study variability and quantify uncertainty sources.
- Build a framework for error analysis and data quality assessment independent of specific equipment.
- Assist with lab activities, including electro-optic measurements of silicon photonics integrated circuits.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
- Strong communication abilities and a collaborative team spirit.
- High adaptability and a willingness to learn continuously.
- A patient and curious approach to problem-solving.
- Interest in and understanding of analog and power circuit design.
- Proficiency in Python for data analysis, basic hardware communication, or test routine implementation.
- Solid grasp of statistics and data analysis techniques.
Nice to have
- Prior experience with PCB design software, Git version control, or CAD tools.
- Familiarity with measurement systems or error analysis methods.
- Experience using data platforms or development tools like Databricks or Azure DevOps.
