Miraex seeks an Intern Quantum Engineer for a 6-12 month onsite role in Ecublens, CH. The position involves designing and modeling quantum electro-optic photonic devices within a collaborative R&D team.
This internship places the candidate within a compact, flat-structured research and development group. The primary objective is to advance the theoretical framework, design, and practical application of quantum electro-optic integrated photonic devices. The intern will engage in modeling these components and systems while contributing to projects spanning quantum sensing, networking, and computing.
Responsibilities
- Create designs and operational theories for quantum electro-optic integrated photonic devices, including developing related applications.
- Perform modeling of electro-optic devices at both the component and system levels.
- Generate ideas, mathematical models, and calculations to support applications in quantum sensing, networking, and computing.
- Collaborate actively within a flat, horizontal research and development team structure.
Requirements
- Previous experience working within a research setting.
- Foundational understanding of quantum optics, optical systems, and electrical circuits.
- Prior involvement in work that links theory with experimental results, or experience in quantum optics and atomic/optical device theory.
- Ability to apply computational thinking and automation, preferably using Python or similar scientific programming languages.
- Strong written and oral communication skills in English, including the ability to document work effectively.
Nice to have
- Background in studying or working with RF, electro-optic, and/or optical components, systems, and circuits.
- Knowledge of superconducting quantum circuits or materials.
- Familiarity with quantum computing and networking architectures.
- A self-directed approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to conceptualize how electro-optic technology can enable applications in quantum computing, networking, and sensing.
