Zurich Instruments seeks a Team Leader for Quantum Software Applications in Munich. The role involves managing developers, shaping LabOne Q APIs, and driving automation and AI workflows for quantum computing systems.
As a technology leader in advanced control electronics for quantum computing, Zurich Instruments is looking for a manager to lead a software development team in Munich. This position focuses on enhancing the user experience, automation, and AI-assisted workflows for quantum computing applications, with regular travel to Zurich to collaborate with the broader engineering group.
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of software engineers dedicated to user-facing features and partnerships with academic and industrial entities.
- Oversee all aspects of staff growth and development in coordination with human resources.
- Improve LabOne Q to provide a better experience for users operating Quantum Processing Units (QPUs).
- Define the architecture for LabOne Q’s public APIs and abstractions, ensuring a uniform design language throughout.
- Take full ownership of feature delivery for LabOne Q, including concept creation, coding, testing, and documentation.
- Work with R&D and product management colleagues on system architecture, interfaces, and feature specifications.
Requirements
- A PhD, MSc, or equivalent background in Quantum Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of three years of experience in a team leadership capacity.
- Prior work with quantum computing frameworks, or experience with automation and workflow engines in technical settings.
- Proven ability to write and maintain production-level Python code and design APIs.
- Residence in Munich and willingness to travel to Zurich approximately once a month.
Nice to have
- Practical experience in experimental quantum computing, such as running experiments, handling measurement data, or automating calibration and characterization processes.
- Knowledge of the Rust programming language.
