Postdoctoral researcher in hydrogel acoustic metamaterials

EPFL seeks a Postdoctoral researcher in hydrogel acoustic metamaterials for a renewable one-year contract within the Laboratory for Bio-Iontronics in Lausanne.

This position is based in the Laboratory for Bio-Iontronics (BION) at EPFL, which focuses on creating bioiontronic systems for biointerfaces and hybrid intelligent systems. The successful candidate will lead independent research efforts while collaborating closely with internal team members and international partners to advance the lab's scientific goals.

Responsibilities

• Lead independent research projects from conception to completion.
• Design and conduct experiments in collaboration with lab colleagues and external partners.
• Analyze and interpret data generated from experimental work.
• Draft and submit scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
• Share findings at international conferences.
• Provide supervision for student projects and assist with basic administrative tasks.

Requirements

• Hold a PhD in materials science, microengineering, or bioengineering.
• Demonstrate proven experience in polymer characterization and ultrasonics.
• Have published more than two peer-reviewed articles.
• Exhibit strong experimental capabilities and a hands-on approach.
• Show high motivation for interdisciplinary academic research.
• Be fluent in English.

Nice to have

• Background in microfluidics, microfabrication, stimulus-responsive hydrogels, ultrasonics, or acoustic metamaterials.
• Solid experience developing hydrogel acoustic metamaterials.
• Prior work in cleanroom manufacturing or iontronics.
• Personal traits such as independence, creativity, and teamwork.
• Proficiency in French.
• Interest in sports.
