Empa's Laboratory of Advanced Materials Processing (LAMP) in Thun seeks a Postdoc in applied laser physics to operate laser platforms, design optical systems, and conduct experimental campaigns within a multidisciplinary research environment.

Within the Laboratory of Advanced Materials Processing (LAMP), a multidisciplinary unit of Empa, the successful candidate will focus on functional material modification through beam and plasma processing. The role involves integrating additive manufacturing, large-scale laser micro-processing, multiscale modelling, and AI/ML for quality monitoring to drive innovative research outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Operate various laser platforms and conduct experimental campaigns.
  • Design, conceptualize, and assemble optical systems.
  • Manage hardware synchronization and data acquisition processes.
  • Evaluate experimental results and prepare detailed reports.

Requirements

  • Hold a PhD in Physics, Photonics, Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrate practical experience with laser applications, including measurement and processing.
  • Show proficiency in optical system design, assembly, and operation.
  • Maintain a hands-on experimental approach with strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Possess a solid grasp of laser and optical physics.
  • Apply data analysis and experimental optimization techniques effectively.

Nice to have

  • Proficiency in English, French, and German is advantageous.
