Senior Project Manager, CMC

Vaxcyte seeks a Senior Project Manager in CMC to lead internal and external development activities in Visp, ensuring timely, scoped, and budgeted delivery of manufacturing milestones.

The company is looking for a Senior Project Manager to oversee CMC project management for both internal teams and external partners. This position reports to the Associate Director of CMC Project Management and is responsible for ensuring that all development and manufacturing activities meet their deliverables on schedule, within the defined scope, and under budget.

Responsibilities

  • Create detailed timelines for CMC component plans, identify potential risks, and implement mitigation strategies while escalating issues to maintain clarity on deliverables.
  • Facilitate cross-functional coordination meetings by handling scheduling, agendas, summaries, documentation, and goal tracking.
  • Monitor operational plans proactively to highlight progress toward key milestones and ensure alignment of task dependencies.
  • Collaborate with CMC and program teams to integrate CMC strategy into the broader cross-functional program schedule.
  • Keep stakeholders and leadership informed about project activities, status updates, and potential risks.
  • Contribute to cross-functional working plans by prioritizing workstreams, managing risks, and ensuring adequate resourcing.
  • Develop and maintain trackers and dashboards to provide real-time status updates on campaign manufacturing and analytical readiness.
  • Manage external Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs) by developing Statements of Work, defining scope and budget, and tracking progress.
  • Identify and implement processes and tools to continuously improve and streamline CMC project management workflows.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in life sciences, engineering, or business administration.
  • Minimum of 9 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • At least three years of relevant experience in a CMC organization.
  • Significant experience working in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Solid understanding of CMC manufacturing and analytical activities required in biotech/drug/vaccine development.
  • Knowledge of cGMP regulations.
  • Expert analytical skills for integrating and interpreting interdisciplinary project information.
  • Strong planning and tracking skills, well-organized, focused on results, capable of managing multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects independently and ability to manage changes in processes, strategy, and competitive landscape.
  • Strong team management skills, including facilitation, conflict resolution, and team development.
  • Proven influence management and communication skills, at all levels of the organization.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Project.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree in life sciences, engineering, or business administration.
  • PMP Certification and/or Project Management training.
  • Previous experience supporting regulatory filings.
  • Prior experience as a liaison with external manufacturing organizations.
  • Working knowledge of Veeva and Smartsheet.
